Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

The book Mockingjay is a sequel to the book The Hunger Games and the book Catching Fire. In the first book Katniss is, in my mind, passionate, unique, and confused. In my mind, I do not think Katniss has changed very much at all. But there are other features to her that can be mentioned.

In Mockingjay Katniss is more sentimental because of traumatic things that happened in past books. In Catching Fire Katniss finds out that her home district twelve had been bombed and everything in it died. Also in Catching Fire Katniss found out she was the reason it was bombed. This makes Katniss seem more vulnerable than in previous books.

Katniss is more confident in herself in this book. A reader could tell this is true because Katniss overcomes many obstacles in Mockingjay. Like even after Katniss gets her throat extremely injured she manages to overcome the injury and become a soldier for the resistance.  She also overcomes many depressing things like her home being destroyed, Peeta being captured, and the fact that she may have started this entire war!

Lastly Katniss is a lot more of a leader in Mockingjay than in The Huger Games. For example when district three is being bombed instead of running away she mans a gun and destroys the bombing hovercrafts. She also took control of the mission to assassinate President Snow when the other leader, Boggs died. In this book you can easily compare Katniss and the resistance to Uncle Sam and the North in the civil war.

In the book Mockingjay there could be many themes but i will just give you the two I think best fit. The first one I think is easy, never give up. I say this because even after all that Katniss and the other districts had been through they still managed to gang together and defeat the capitol. The best scene in this book to describe it comes when Katniss and all the other people in her crew sacrificed themselves to keep the mission alive.

The second theme that I think would best fit this book is, when Katniss realizes that when President Snow is killed all that the resistance will be doing is the same as what the capitol would be doing but flipped around. So instead of killing President Snow she kills the next in line to be president. I think this shows that when you get to be so powerful don't let it all go to your head.
