The Hunger Games is a book about the main character Katniss Everdeen and her adventures in a game called " The Hunger Games," Katniss is a tall. skinny. brunette whos father was killed in a mining explosion. After the explosion Katniss's mother went into depression and couldn't provide for the family. That left Katniss to go out into the forest illegally and hunt for food for her mother and sister, Prim.
Every year the capitol makes the twelve districts put there name in for a draw to go to the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a system set up by the capitol in which each district must send one boy and one girl to fight against the other disticts boys and girls to the death. When the names are called for who is going to the Hunger Games Prim is chosen. Katniss panics and volunteers to take Prims spot. This shows how much Katniss cares about her sister.
After Katniss is chosen she promises herself to win the competition so she can get back home to see her family and crush, Gale. But the other tribute who was choosen from her district is Peeta who she falls in love with. Throughout the book you can see the confusion in Katniss trying to decide beteween Gale and Peeta. However you can also see how much she cares about both of them because she always tries to do what she thinks is best for both of them.
Katniss is very different from others she changes her mind about people a lot. Like how she was ready to kill Peeta before the games and during the games she fell in love with him. It went that way with a lot of other characters to like Gale, her Mom, and Madge the mayors daughter. She also seperates herself from people a lot. She doesn't always like to talk to people she would rather be alone.
In the book Katniss has many flashbacks. Most of them are about her dad. I think the reason there are many reasons as to why she has so many about her dad.
Katniss's dad was killed in a mine accident when she was young. Then when her mom went into depression I think Katniss longed for her parents that she had lost. So instead of just moping around Katniss got up and did the things her dad had taught her. She has a flazhback to when her dad is teaching her how to hunt.
Another reason is I think Katniss was really close to her father. You can tell just by the way she speaks about him. Like she says when her dad sang, people listened. This shows you she loved her dad's voice.
Lastly the flashbacks help Katniss throughout the book. When she is in trouble she usually goes to a flashback and finds a way out of her situation. These flashbacks really helped me throughout the book to help me understand it more. They also made the book a very nice read and a book that I found was hard to put down!
Glad you liked these books! Your passion convinced me to read them!
ReplyDeletept 1 - you get a little lost in summary and don't focus as much on describing Katniss. Stay focussed with adjectives, and then support.
pt 2 - Flashbacks - You've illustrated their importance, but spend some time illustrating these flashbacks. This will help "define" the relationship between the two.
