Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
The book Mockingjay is a sequel to the book The Hunger Games and the book Catching Fire. In the first book Katniss is, in my mind, passionate, unique, and confused. In my mind, I do not think Katniss has changed very much at all. But there are other features to her that can be mentioned.
In Mockingjay Katniss is more sentimental because of traumatic things that happened in past books. In Catching Fire Katniss finds out that her home district twelve had been bombed and everything in it died. Also in Catching Fire Katniss found out she was the reason it was bombed. This makes Katniss seem more vulnerable than in previous books.
Katniss is more confident in herself in this book. A reader could tell this is true because Katniss overcomes many obstacles in Mockingjay. Like even after Katniss gets her throat extremely injured she manages to overcome the injury and become a soldier for the resistance. She also overcomes many depressing things like her home being destroyed, Peeta being captured, and the fact that she may have started this entire war!
Lastly Katniss is a lot more of a leader in Mockingjay than in The Huger Games. For example when district three is being bombed instead of running away she mans a gun and destroys the bombing hovercrafts. She also took control of the mission to assassinate President Snow when the other leader, Boggs died. In this book you can easily compare Katniss and the resistance to Uncle Sam and the North in the civil war.
In the book Mockingjay there could be many themes but i will just give you the two I think best fit. The first one I think is easy, never give up. I say this because even after all that Katniss and the other districts had been through they still managed to gang together and defeat the capitol. The best scene in this book to describe it comes when Katniss and all the other people in her crew sacrificed themselves to keep the mission alive.
The second theme that I think would best fit this book is, when Katniss realizes that when President Snow is killed all that the resistance will be doing is the same as what the capitol would be doing but flipped around. So instead of killing President Snow she kills the next in line to be president. I think this shows that when you get to be so powerful don't let it all go to your head.

The Hunger Games by Suzzane Collins
The Hunger Games is a book about the main character Katniss Everdeen and her adventures in a game called " The Hunger Games," Katniss is a tall. skinny. brunette whos father was killed in a mining explosion. After the explosion Katniss's mother went into depression and couldn't provide for the family. That left Katniss to go out into the forest illegally and hunt for food for her mother and sister, Prim.
Every year the capitol makes the twelve districts put there name in for a draw to go to the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a system set up by the capitol in which each district must send one boy and one girl to fight against the other disticts boys and girls to the death. When the names are called for who is going to the Hunger Games Prim is chosen. Katniss panics and volunteers to take Prims spot. This shows how much Katniss cares about her sister.
After Katniss is chosen she promises herself to win the competition so she can get back home to see her family and crush, Gale. But the other tribute who was choosen from her district is Peeta who she falls in love with. Throughout the book you can see the confusion in Katniss trying to decide beteween Gale and Peeta. However you can also see how much she cares about both of them because she always tries to do what she thinks is best for both of them.
Katniss is very different from others she changes her mind about people a lot. Like how she was ready to kill Peeta before the games and during the games she fell in love with him. It went that way with a lot of other characters to like Gale, her Mom, and Madge the mayors daughter. She also seperates herself from people a lot. She doesn't always like to talk to people she would rather be alone.
In the book Katniss has many flashbacks. Most of them are about her dad. I think the reason there are many reasons as to why she has so many about her dad.
Katniss's dad was killed in a mine accident when she was young. Then when her mom went into depression I think Katniss longed for her parents that she had lost. So instead of just moping around Katniss got up and did the things her dad had taught her. She has a flazhback to when her dad is teaching her how to hunt.
Another reason is I think Katniss was really close to her father. You can tell just by the way she speaks about him. Like she says when her dad sang, people listened. This shows you she loved her dad's voice.
Lastly the flashbacks help Katniss throughout the book. When she is in trouble she usually goes to a flashback and finds a way out of her situation. These flashbacks really helped me throughout the book to help me understand it more. They also made the book a very nice read and a book that I found was hard to put down!

Alabama Moon
Alabama Moon is a book about a son named Moon and his father, "Pap", living out in a huge forest in Alabama. Moon is a very strong person in both mind and body. Readers can tell because Moon owns hundreds of books that he has read at least once because he has bags full of them in his shelter. Moon is strong because he lives out in the forest and has to hunt and cut down trees for survival. His father also says he can "whip up on" anybody, even someone three times his size.
Moon is very confident. When Moon's father dies, he tells Moon to go to Alaska. This seems like a great feat, because of the long distance and dangers involved in Alaska's harsh climate. Many people might not be able to tackle this challenge. Moon, on the other hand, keeps going. When the government finds him and puts him in an "Inescapable" facility, he still finds a way to escape. He even saves everyone else in the facility while doing it.
Lastly, Moon is caring. It is easy to see this because Moon's father told him that if he writes a letter and burns it his dad will read it through the smoke. When Moon gets lonely throughout the book, he is always burning letters in hopes that his dad will read it through the smoke. Moon also cares about his friends a lot! Most of all, he cares about his best friend, Kit, whom he hid with in the forest from the government. Kit got sick and Moon couldn't get any good medicine. In the end, Kit died from his disease, which is unknown. Moon cried for a long time because he was so close to Kit. In the end, Moon realized that Kit was happy where he was.
I liked the book Alabama Moon. It was intriguing and interesting to learn about all the different ways humans can use nature for living and survival. For example, when Kit becomes ill, Moon creates many medicines out of TONS of mushrooms and weeds hoping to heal Kit. Another example is when Kit and Moon dug a hole under a tree so that they could stay warm under ground during winter. When a deer was killed, the boys used every part of the deer for various tasks including food from the animal, a hat from the skin, and the bones to grind up for medicine.
I was also intrigued by the different ways people in this time lived their lives without modern tools and comforts. Instead of using a scissors for a haircut, Moon's dad would put an iron clamp around Moon's head and burn the hair around it. Moon's clothing was made out of animal skins. It seemed like a way for him to both stay warm and show his pride for his kill.
I would recommend this book to just about everyone. The book was long, but it was an easy read. It has a lot of information about how to survive on one's own in a forest. I would especially recommend this book to adventurous type readers. Also, this book has a couple of twists. For instance, there are a couple of sad parts that the reader doesn't expect. The reader is reeled in by the author when Kit and his dad die because the reader wants to see how Moon is going to live without them.
I would give Alabama Moon a solid rating of 10/10! I was hooked into this book by the first chapter. I would recommend this book to everyone!

Hatchet Book Report
At the beginning of the book, Brian is frustrated and angry. I learned Brian could hold a grudge. For instance, when he caught his mother kissing another man, he barely talked to her for two months. Also at the start of the book, Brian is a kid who has a low self-esteem. During the trip to his dad's on the plane, he flashes back to bad things that happened to him. He doesn't know much about survival at the start of the book. He didn't know how to start a fire or catch anything he could eat. At the end of the book, Brian is confident and focused on things happening around him. The "new Brian" notices and appreciates the little things happening around him. He described the scenery around him. "The sun exploded the sky, just blew it up with the setting color, and that color came down into the water of the lake, lit the trees with amazing beauty." The "old Brian" was too angry to notice or appreciate things like this. The "new Brian" became more physically fit. At the climax of the story, he tells about being a pudgy kid. When he looks at himself in the water, he sees how much his arms have built up from chopping wood and his legs from running around in the wilderness.
Throughout the book, Brian is faced with many conflicts, both internal and external. External conflicts included finding food, making a bow and arrow to catch fish and "foolbirds" as he called them because they were so stupid. A turning point for Brian was when he caught him first foolbird. Foolbirds blended in with the environment. Catching one showed that he was starting to notice little things in nature. He was also faced with the challenge of having to start over building his shelter when the tornado hit. The tornado was an external conflict and it showed how Brian was learning to deal with internal reactions. "Old Brian" would have curled up and started crying. "New Brian" got right back up and started over. One of the major internal conflicts was when Brian was faced with forgiving his mother for cheating on his father. One of the things that helped him do that was the time that he spent alone in the forest thinking about it. He learned that everyone makes mistakes and he needed to learn to forgive.

Mexico Memior
I looked out of the plane and saw and saw the vast, gynormous ocean. Even from as high as the heavens I could see the titanic like ship. I couldn't begin to compprehend how it could take us so far from home and have so much food and drinks for everyone. When I got on the ship there were so many people I couldv'e sworn it was the amount of people in St. Cloud. While my dad, sister, and I looked around we saw 4 hot tubs, 2 swimming pools, a FREE ice cream and pizza stand, and a movie screen 10x the size of the biggest plasma screen there is. They even had a mini golf course!!!After what seemed like an etermity the boat honked its horn. The horn sounded off and knocked me off me feet because I was so terrified. So we were off into the vast Atlantic Ocean.

Divorce......
It was a day to live in infamy. Well for me not you. It was the day my parents got divorced. I had woken up in my cozy, nice bed wiping the eye boogers(as my mom calls them) from my groggy eyes. I was ready for my usual summer routine: Take a long, hot shower, Follow that up with a nice bowl of Cocoa Puffs while watching ESPN.
After that i went over to my neighbors and we got the usual people to hang out. We were having trouble finding out what game to play when my sister Maddie came up to me and said that Mom and Dad wanted to see us. Now i was focused on finding a game so I didn't want to leave. But my sister had different ideas and picked up the 65 pound 8 year old and carried me all the way to the house and sat on me until my other sister came up.
When she finally got off i was ready to go to the E.R because my lungs felt like they had be crushed to pieces. When my parents were finally ready my Mom was crying and my Dads voice was shaky like he was ready to fill a pool with tears. I was starting to get scared, my hands were shaking, and i couldn't breathe. When my dad broke the tragic news and said they were getting divorced i was suddenly confused, my sister Maddie was crying and my other sister Hona ran out of the room. Now nothing like this had ever happened in my family so i didn't even know what "divorced' meant. When i figured it out I was had a million feelings rush through me i was sad because my parents weren't going to be toghether i was mad because life wouldn't be the same but i was also scared of what would happen later.
But that wasn't all my parents soon revealed to me that we would have to move because not one parent could afford the house on their own. That made me feel even worse because i had so many friends and such a nice house and to move away would be like moving to another galaxy.
These days when i think back on the divorce i think about what my life would be like had my parents not been divorced. But i can't because I like my life ust the way it is.
